A large-scale sculptural installation, “To Pass Through…” by Mykhailo Deyak, will be presented at Mytna Square in Lviv. The project is dedicated to the experience of overcoming, transition, and hope for a new beginning. The installation stands five metres high, is made of stainless steel, and is mounted on a concrete platform measuring three by two metres.
The five-metre-tall stainless steel structure evokes a gate, an arch, or a portal. Its uneven, distorted forms appear to preserve the traces of pressure, destruction, and struggle. “To Pass Through…” explores the idea of a threshold that confronts an individual, a society, or an entire nation. Passing through this symbolic gateway becomes a metaphor for the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. In the context of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, this image takes on a profound significance. The sculpture reflects the collective experience of a society that is forced to overcome new challenges every day while preserving its ability to recover, adapt, and move forward. Rather than offering a simple resolution or a definitive answer, the project captures the very moment of transition — the state between what has already happened and what is yet to come. The installation is constantly transformed through its interaction with the surrounding environment of Mytna Square, inviting visitors to become active participants in the work itself.
