The ZAG gallery presents the exhibition “Beyond the Border” – a project of artists-fighters, veterans and volunteers, created during the Carpathian plein air of the Korunja Service of the 2nd Corps of the Charter National University under the curatorship of Bohdan Mysiuga.
The title of the exhibition appeals to the experience of transition – that border where the artist becomes a warrior, and later tries to return to creativity. This is a state in which the optics of vision change, where familiar artistic means acquire new importance, and the creative process itself becomes an act of internal overcoming.
The exhibition brings together works by artists who once put art on pause, leaving their studios for the sake of war. Their return to practice is painful and at the same time necessary. A different sensitivity is palpable in these works: sometimes it manifests itself through the distance of the gaze, similar to the lens of a drone, sometimes through physical interaction with the material or tense silence in front of a blank canvas.
“Beyond the Border” is art after an experience that cannot be ignored. It combines warmth and anxiety, fragility and strength, becoming a space where pain and memory are transformed into a visual language.
The exhibition features artists: Denys Struk, Yuriy Bakay, Bohdan Mysiuga, Oleg Kalashnyk, Vyacheslav Yaroshenko, Orest Gelitovych, Oleg Kapustyak, Yevhen Ravsky, Igor Slobodyan and Roman Zhuk.
