About the Event

ZENYK ART GALLERY invites you to a lecture that reveals Taras Shevchenko beyond the usual image of a “Kobzar”. This is a conversation about the artist in the context of the culture of his time — an artist, intellectual and innovator.

Together with art historian, artist, researcher at the Solomia Krushelnytska Music and Memorial Museum Ivan Dudych, we will trace the key milestones of Shevchenko’s life and work, the influence of European art on his style and the phenomenon of his self-portraits and graphics that raised the artist to the world level.

We will also talk about little-known pages of his biography, connections with Ukrainian art of subsequent generations and try to see Shevchenko as a living person — with dreams, internal contradictions and bold thinking.
