Could Taras Shevchenko have studied with Rembrandt — without even meeting him?
This lecture opens a little-known dialogue between two great artists that took place centuries later and through art.
It is known that Shevchenko copied Rembrandt's works. However, something much more interesting is: did Rembrandt influence the way Shevchenko thought of himself as an artist? Is this where his special passion for self-portraits comes from? And why did Shevchenko ultimately choose the path of a graphic artist and become an academician of engraving?
During the lecture, Diana Klochko, a well-known Ukrainian art critic, member of the AICA (International Association of Art Critics) under the auspices of UNESCO and PEN Ukraine, will talk about the little-known parallels between the work of Shevchenko and Rembrandt and about how Shevchenko, an artist who is used to being perceived primarily as a poet, was formed.
This is a conversation about the influences, artistic ambitions and the choice that determined Shevchenko's place in the history of European art.

For guests of the lecture, entrance to the gallery will be available without queues from 18:00, so you can visit the exhibition before the lecture.
